¡Hola mi familia y mis amigos!
I'm so sorry to hear about the destructive fires of Colorado Springs. It feels so very far away, but I can feel my home and family and friends close. Thank you for all the prayers that you have said for me, and just know that I pray for each of you always.
Speaking of family reunions, make sure to plan the family reunions for next summer for July and beyond so that I can see all the family and be amazed by how big everyone has grown and whatnot. Keep having fun on your vacations, your summer sounds pretty eventful, which makes for fun preparation days for me when I get to the computer.
This morning, we had a good ol' classic American district activity where we played baseball, which claims itself as America's game. (As you know, I've never particularly been in favor of that slogan.) The young men's leader in our branch is an English teacher, and asked us if we could come and teach his students how to play baseball today, because it's a Chilean holiday today and they have school off. So we turned that into a district activity and 6 of us elders went, taught, and played baseball with a group of about eight 12-year-old kids. It was pretty fun, and since they were kids who study English, they told us to only speak in English. Happy 4th of July from Chile. 'Merica!!
Elder Córdoba and I are getting into a really sweet groove together, and it is truly amazing to see the miracles that God throws at us when you have solid companionship unity. After finding a bunch of new investigators last week and committing quite a few to come to church, God did even better and sent us a couple of new investigators while we were at church yesterday. They are the friends of a member, and felt like it was time to finally come see what our church is all about.
One investigator, Nancy, came to church yesterday for the first time when a member went by to bring her with. She absorbed every single word that was said in the 2 hours that she was there, and wanted so badly to stay for the third hour to be with the relief society, but her husband kept calling her and telling her to come home because he wanted to eat lunch. We're trying really hard and patiently to understand what it is exactly that HE needs in order to progress in his journey as a child of God, because when Nancy first started investigating, he was really interested and listened to her as she read the Book of Mormon out loud, but recently he gets really sour whenever she mentions God. It's nice to be able to just trust that God will guide us to the solution if we don't freak out, because with patience and real love for him, we can understand what it is that he is missing in his life, what it is that he is really searching for.
Cheese is really expensive here, but it can be pretty good when it comes from the South of Chile, where they have cows and the like and make really good dairy products. We're teaching a family who owns the most famous cheese and empanada shop in Sindempart, la Cava del Queso, and they get all their cheese from the South of Chile. They come in these gigantic blocks and with a bunch of different flavors, just like we saw when we went to Wisconsin. I think the Wisconsin cheese was a little bit better, but it was still so delicious when this family gave us a bunch of meat and cheese after we taught them. The hard part is getting them to church, because they commit themselves to going, and when we call them a hour beforehand, they're still committed to going and they're getting ready, but then they never show up. Don't worry, it just takes a little bit of planning, creative thinking, and ward participation and they'll be in church and running in no time. It's so important because it's incredible the difference of progression between those who go to church and those who don't.
President Kähnlein is here, but we haven't met him or anything yet. We're definitely all excited to meet our new mission president, but it certainly is one of the saddest feelings, knowing that President Gillespie is gone. Tiffanie, take Virginia by storm!! I love you all!
Love, Elder Kimball
