¡Hola mi familia y mis amigos!
It´s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!! All of the Christmas decorations are coming out, snowmen, Santas, reindeer, Christmas trees, and the like, but none of it makes any sense in the middle of summer!! All of the Christmas decorations are covered in snow and whatnot, but there will never be a white Christmas in Viña del Mar...except for the baptisms of course.
Tacoma sounded like a blast! I´m glad to hear everyone is doing well up there! I hope I get a couple good chances to visit Brandon and Marta while they are living in Washington, it sounds like a fun state to live in! Great job with the job interview, Tiff! I´d be willing to bet they were begging for you to work for them!
I´m helping my companion, Elder Diaz, learn English, because he knows little to nothing and wants to be able to speak basics by the time he finishes his mission. When we first joined up, basically the only English he knew was "I need to pee" and "I need to crap." Haha, but we´ve made a lot of progress in the last couple of weeks and we help each other learn each other´s languages pretty well. It´s always funny to hear Latinos say English names, because you can hardly identify who they are talking about. Some of the best examples include Paul McCartney and Jimmer Fredette.
In other news, the Evangelic fanatics upgraded this last week. Every Sunday, there is this Evangelical guy that stands on the corner on the way to our church and screams out scriptures and threats of hell and whatnot to the general public. Last week, he invested in a microphone and a speaker, and yesterday was the first day he got to use it. Haha, he was still screaming, but this time into a microphone, so it was about 5 times as loud. Good people.
Actually, church yesterday went really, really well. We had a couple of new families come to church for the first time. The first were Elsa and Gabriel with their 5 year old daughter. Gabriel is a less active member from about 20 years ago and Elsa was almost baptized when she was 9, but was terrified of the water, so she didn´t do it, and then her family fell away from the church anyways. She´s still terrified of water, but during the testimony meeting yesterday, because it was fast Sunday, she said she felt like everything they said was directed right for her, but in a good way. Everything she heard was something she needed answered, and afterwards they both realized that if Gabriel reactivates, he can baptize Elsa, which she would be comfortable with, because she won´t get in the water without him. They felt the Spirit very strongly during the meeting and felt the truth that Christ lives and guides this church.
The other family was Jaquelin and 2 of her sons, Cristofer (11) and Kevin (7). Kevin is mentally disabled and can never sit still. He always has to be going somewhere or doing something, but during the testimony meeting, a calm came over him and he sat in his mom´s lap still as she listened to the testimonies of the members. She was amazed, first that her son was so calm, and second at the feelings that she felt as her prayers to know if the Book of Mormon is true and if Christ really restored His church through Joseph Smith were answered.
One of the testimonies was from Sammy Letelier, a return missionary who just got home from his mission from Salta, Argentina last Wednesday. It was really cool to listen to a return missionary bear his testimony so simply and powerfully in his home ward to his family and his friends, and was a great motivator for me to continue refining my testimony little by little as I help others come unto Christ day by day. I love you all!
