¡Hola mi familia y mis amigos!
Happy birthday to Elder Daniel Burnett!! Thanks for being such a great support for me during the larger portion of my life, my friend! I hope everything goes just peachy in Germany!
Yesterday was fast Sunday here in Chile, so we had the testimony meeting during church, and it was so so so good!! There were a bunch of people visiting from Santiago and Rancagua for the weekend, so the chapel was full to the brim, and a bunch of members went up and shared their testimonies with us. We had a nice group of investigators there, and afterwards they nearly all said that they could feel something different as they listened to the testimonies of the members. Remember the family that came to church last week with the 10-year-old kid, Lucas? They came again yesterday, and Lucas jumped up during the testimony meeting and gave his own testimony! It was the coolest ever!! He said that it was only his second time in the church, but he was so grateful for the difference the gospel has made in his family already in just a few weeks, and how excited he was to read the Book of Mormon with his parents and feel so good inside when we teach them. He is such a stud.
We set up a soccer match last week and invited a bunch of investigators and members, and it turned out pretty good! It´s fun to play soccer with Chileans because they all play soccer, no matter what age, shape, or size. Lucas, the 10 year old, scored a couple of goals against the 56-year-old elders quorum president, and I was able to hold my own against all the Latino players! Soccer just brings the world together.
My companion loves to dance, and he knows plenty of Latin dances, like salsa and maringa and whatnot, so I started teaching him how to swing dance! It´s hilarious, because it´s hard to teach dancing in a different language, and I´ve never really had to teach a guy how to do the guy´s part, so I have to think backwards and then show him how to do it. We´ve made some progress, but it´s going to take a few more preparation days before he´s an expert, haha.
Hmm, what else is new... Oh, Elsa and Gabriel are pregnant! Yesterday Gabriel got ordained to the office of priest in the priesthood, so he will be able to baptize his wife on her birthday next Sunday, the 15th! It took forever to find his information in the church, because he was baptized and received the priesthood 30 years ago, but went inactive, and it was hard to find his file in the church records for a while. We finally found it, though, so we could ordain him and now we´re all set. But yeah, they´re pregnant and very excited. It´s incredible the difference between them a month ago when they were on the point of divorce, and now that they have turned their lives to the grand love that God has for us.
We held a family home evening with them in the house of some members, and for the game I did the trick where you use 5 straws in different configurations, and each configuration has a designation of 1 through 5, and you have to figure out what number each configuration is. If you don´t know which game that is, I wouldn´t know how to explain it better. It was so funny, though, because it took most of them a really long time to figure it out, and the few that figured it out in a few minutes were just rolling around laughing, because I would make it really obvious and do all kinds of hints, but there were still about 4 people who took 50 minutes to figure it out. It was a great family home evening and really opened up the members to Elsa and Gabriel, which is so important, because they need to feel that they´re a part of the church now and that they´re not outsiders looking in. I love you all!
