¡Hola mi familia y mis amigos!
Happy Birthday Marta!! I hope all is going better in your house now that sledding has been banned...Those boys are destined for some good scar stories in their life. Thank you for all your support that you have given me, I hope I can even begin to reciprocate it to you!
Happy Birthday Elder Chris Bowler!! Nckrachsnichburg Flúgluckh Rffisthcik!! (You´re the best, in Russian)
So at the soccer game ultimate matchup that we held last week, there ended up being 20 people who showed up from the ward and friends of the investigator and whatnot, so we split up into 4 groups of 5. Whenever a team scored a goal, the other team had to leave and was replaced by one of the other teams, and we played like that for a couple of hours. It was really fun and worked out really well! My team ended up being the champion at the end because we scored 5 goals in a row and never got knocked out. After the playing, we invited everyone into the church building and gave a tour to all the visitors. It´s surprising what kind of doubts can be resolved by a simple walk through the hall, because some of these kids imagined that we had dead bodies or performed rituals and other weird stuff, but happily none of that is true and now they know!
Elder Diaz is actually a pretty talented juggler with the soccer ball. Almost every time we see a kid with a soccer ball on the street, he asks for the ball and then does a few fancy moves while juggling it. One time, there was a small crowd of people, and so he juggled the ball and then did a backflip and continued juggling the ball! It was pretty impressive, especially in a shirt and tie. He still gets recognized by random people as the Colombian who did the backflip!
He also turned 22 years old last Friday, the same day that our ward mission leader turned 24, so we held a joint birthday party get together at the church so that we could invite all the investigators to us instead of attempting to visit all of them and give them each their deserved time congratulating him, because there just isn´t enough time in the missionary day to see all the people that wanted to wish him well.
Last Monday, my backpack officially died. When I say died, I mean I literally killed that thing. Over the last 6 months, I´ve sewed it up in about 4 different places 2 or 3 times each, and the zipper was breaking in a couple of places too. As I was walking through the supermarket, it suddenly popped open as the zipper went for good. I bought a backpack in a street market on my way out, and after only 6 days, it is in about the same condition as my other one! I´m going to try to make it last until February at least, because the Chileans have told me that there are good backpack sales in February with 2 year guarantees and whatnot, because school starts up again for them in February.
Victor Garcia found a new job as a caretaker for a rich man´s house in Valparaíso, so now he lives over there for 15 days at a time and comes back to visit his wife for 1 day, and then returns for another 15 days. I´m happy for him because he was getting pretty bummed about having only scrap jobs here and there, but sad that he can´t spend more time with his wife. They call each other often, but that can´t be the same.
Marcos, the father of Lucas and wife of Paula, won´t be getting baptized this upcoming Sunday, because he still has a problem with smoking, but he is really pushing to quit. He has made such great progress from where he was before, and has stopped drinking alcohol completely. He was so humble and loving as he told his family that they needed to get baptized without him, and he would be there to support them, so that they could be his example and support him even more as he prepares to get baptized in February. Their goal isn´t even to get baptized together as a family, rather to help each other as they prepare to go to the temple to get sealed together forever in one year, and Marcos wanted them to get started as soon as they could to prepare for that. They are so tight as a family, it´s incredible what an understanding of the gospel does to people in their homes! Also, they love the color of McKenzie's and Tiffanie´s hair, and ask every time if that color really is natural, haha! I love you all!
Love, Elder Kimball
